The United States was one of several countries represented at an international fair organized and hosted by the Foreign Languages and Cultures Student Association at the Cyprus University of Technology in Limassol on November 11, 2009. U.S. Embassy Political Officer Jason Chue joined students, friends and faculty of the University for a celebration of world culture that included presenters from Belgium, Moldova, Kenya, Germany, Russia and the Czech Republic. Fulbright Councelor Presents Insights to U.S. Graduate Education at American Corner
On November 6, Cyprus Fulbright Commission and Education USA Counselor Gulsen Oztoprak spoke to a group of students about graduate education in the United States, during a presentation held at the American Corner at Near East University Library. Ms. Oztoprak discussed with students all aspects of graduate education, including admission requirements, financial aid, scholarship opportunities, and student life in the United States. She also explained the structure and the importance of different tests that applicants need to take before applying for graduate study. [more]

6th International Children’s Film Festival of Cyprus Screens Bicommunal Collaboration
To a packed audience of children and adults, the 6th International Children’s Film Festival officially opened on Saturday, November 14 at the Pantheon Cinema in Nicosia. For the past six years, with the aim of educating children through the art of cinema and drawing their attention to certain topics regarding family, society and the world, the film festival has been encouraging island-wide collaboration among Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot children, parents, and educators. Landmark Book Documents Ottoman, Islamic and Islamised Monuments of Cyprus
United in their conviction that protecting Cyprus’ cultural heritage is part of building a more peaceful future, a large and diverse group welcomed the launch of Dr. Tuncer Bagiskan’s volume, Ottoman, Islamic and Islamised Monuments in Cyprus, at an event in the historic center of old Nicosia on October 27, 2009. “This book is unique [in its content and in what it contributes to scholarship on an important topic]”, said Mr. Mehmet Ali Talat in his remarks at the event.
