On April 8, Ambassador Schlicher hosted a reception in honor of doctors from the Shriner Hospital who have come to Cyprus to donate their time under the sponsorship of the George and Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation. Ambassador Schlicher welcomed the doctors and the George and Thelma Paraskevaides Foundation and commended them for their efforts to improve the lives of so many children. This year the doctors will examine five hundred children in Nicosia, Larnaca, and Paphos and over 50 children will be sent to the U.S. for treatment. Since 1983, over 3,000 children have been sent to the United States under this program. The Shriners one-of-a-kind health care system of 22 hospitals is dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing specialty pediatric care, innovative research and outstanding teaching programs. Since 1922, Shriners Hospitals for Children have significantly improved the lives of more than 865,000 children worldwide. |
