Dr. Rhea Paul of Yale and Southern Connecticut University conducted a week-long seminar for more than 120 special education teachers, supervisors and parents on approaches to teaching autistic children. According to Dr. Paul, one out of every 500 children suffers from this disability. With the use of audio visual material, Dr. Paul described causes of autism, outlined pedagogical interventions, and advised Ministry officials on developing an overall strategy for children with special abilities. The program was covered extensively in the two largest newspapers in Cyprus.
