Counselor For Public Affairs Welcomes Young Students
to English Access Microscholarship Program

February 28, 2008

mbassy Nicosia's Counselor for Public Affairs, Thomas Miller, welcomed over 80 students ages 14-18 and their families to Embassy Nicosia's new English Access Microscholarship Program
Mr. Miller expressed the hope that, through
this special program, students would not only
improve their English language skills, but also
learn more about the United States.

On February 28, Embassy Nicosia's Counselor for Public Affairs, Thomas Miller, welcomed over 80 students ages 14-18 and their families to Embassy Nicosia's new English Access Microscholarship Program at a special ceremony at the Lefkosia Turkish Lycee in north Nicosia. The English Access Program, which provides English language instruction to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, has been implemented in over 40 countries to enroll approximately 10,000 students.

This year marks the first time that the program has been implemented in Cyprus. Congratulating the students on their selection, Mr. Miller expressed the hope that, through this special program, students would not only improve their English language skills, but also learn more about the United States. Mr. Miller explained that over the course of the program, students would gain knowledge about American culture, specifically regarding film, music and sports, thus showing students that Cypriots and Americans share many of the same values and experiences. Mr. Miller concluded by saluting the students, explaining that by working hard and devoting their time to studying English they will obtain a skill that will last a lifetime and continue to open doors for them.
