Embassy Nicosia Organizes Talks and Workshops
for Turkish Cypriot Youth at American Corners

October 22-26, 2007

More than 300 students attended the events presented by Information Resource Officer Ms. Myra BrownDuring the week of October 22, the Public Affairs Section of the Embassy organized four talks and a workshop at the Near East University (NEU) American Corner and at selected departments of Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU). More than 300 students attended the events presented by Information Resource Officer Ms. Myra Brown.

The first talk focused on the role of the media and the internet on U.S. Presidential Elections, examining the media impact on different voting blocks and the influence of the internet and especially websites like YouTube on the way the U.S. President is elected. The second talk studied “coming of age” films showing the similarities in the challenges faced by U.S.–born children of immigrant parents. On Wednesday, October 24, NEU students took part in a digital photography workshop at the American Corner, where they had the opportunity to take photos a nd edit them using free software. Finally, Ms. Brown’s last two talks dealt with the generation gap, concentrating on immigrants' children in the U.S., how they grow up and how they absorb their parents’ and the society’s culture. The students found all talks to be very interesting, participated and even suggested subjects for additional presentations.
