On March 14, Vice-Consul Richard Hanrahan, Assistant Public Affairs Officer John Rhatigan and Consular Intern Melissa Ackerman reached out to over 60 students at Near East University with a presentation on “Education and Travel in the United States.” Hanrahan kicked-off the presentation with a step-by-step explanation of the visa application process. Mr. Rhatigan then followed with an explanation of the graduate school admission process, which touched on testing requirements, school selection and timing considerations. Mr. Rhatigan also discussed scholarship opportunities, in particular, those offered by the Cyprus Fulbright Commission. Ms. Ackerman then made the day a true “triple-play” with a presentation on her experiences as an American college student, giving insight into typical student life in the U.S. After a lively question and answer session with the three presenters, the students proceeded to descend upon the handout materials which were provided by the Cyprus Fulbright Commission. Many of the students remarked on their way out that they were initially apprehensive about traveling to the U.S., but they had now changed their minds and were seriously considering furthering their education at an American university. |
